Remarks	Even though not born to see the second world war, it dominated my growing up, through television and radio, through the effect it had on my parent's generation.  Somehow the picture of war is also a picture of vulgarity and jingoism and ultimately a fading reverie which now gives way to a failing reverence.  The Dog and Chop is about how bad mannered we have become.
